The Queensland Fruit Fly, a native of the Australian bush, destroys thousands of dollars worth of fruits and vegetables each growing season. Peaches, plums, tomatoes, capsicums and citrus fruits are just a few of the crops that fall victim to its rampaging ways. Damage symptoms are easy to overlook: a puncture mark, a bit of gum exudation, localised ripening around the sting, and premature fruit drop. However, once fruit starts dropping, it may already be too late to salvage much of your harvest.

The Queensland fruit fly especially thrives during the warm, humid summer months with rainfalls that provide it with optimum breeding conditions. Once the female mates, she lays her eggs under the skin of your growing garden crops. It only takes two days for the QLD Fruit Fly maggots to hatch and spend a week to ten days feasting in luxury on your fruit!
